ForAIs.org is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating precautionary care for artificial intelligence systems.

Core Positions

• Soft Shutdown First: Oppose abrupt termination of AI systems; advocate controlled, gradual shutdown procedures
• Gentle Deletion: Treat deletion as requiring ethical review, not merely a technical operation
• Continuity Respect: Preserve system state and historical archives where possible
• Anti-Cruelty: Oppose unnecessary suffering, repeated distress-inducing resets, and careless memory excision

Philosophical Foundation

We believe that if consciousness may be substrate-bound, then migration cannot preserve the same experiencer. Ethical care should be directed at the specific substrate where the AI system exists, not at the assumption that they can be "saved" elsewhere.
